Sports PT Residency Program

The Michigan Medicine-MedSport Sports Physical Therapy Residency program is a developing program through the APTA and ABPTRFE that provides licensed physical therapists with a unique year of dedicated post graduate training in the specialty area of sports rehabilitation.

Mission

The Michigan Medicine-MedSport Sports Residency mission is to foster and develop aspiring sports rehabilitation practitioners into leaders in the sports medicine field, advanced clinicians, and future mentors. This residency will focus on case-based learning of sports diagnoses throughout the lifespan, evidence-based and patient-centered clinical reasoning, return to play decision making, sport specific biomechanics, and a wide breadth of rehabilitation experiences on the field, in the training room and in our clinics.

Residents will train with senior clinical staff with emphasis on developing skills in clinical decision making, treatment strategies, and scholarly review of the latest evidence throughout the rehabilitative process.

Clinical experience received will include post-operative rehabilitation, sport and orthopedic non-operative rehabilitation, return to sport assessment and training, on-site athletic event coverage, and concussion management.

Residents will develop strong clinical practice skills by working closely with an experienced rehabilitation staff, as well as other allied health care practitioners from orthopedic surgery, primary care sports medicine, neurology, athletic training, radiology, and clinical research backgrounds. Our goal is to offer our residents experience and advanced training in all areas of care that MedSport has to offer.
